My first Garba Experience??
Today, I want to share my very first Garba experience. Honestly, I didn’t even know it was happening until I found out that it was being held in our college on the American football ground.
We have a group called “Friends Forever” (though, as you know, “forever” with college friends is always questionable 😅). On the group chat, someone asked, “Bhai, what should we wear for Garba?” I jokingly replied, “Just come in your college uniform.” Then he asked, “Should we wear our ID cards too?” I said, “Yes, of course!” He even asked, “Do we need to bring our bags?” And the funny thing is—he actually believed it until another friend clarified that I was joking.
Later, one of my friends texted me, “Arbaj bhai, can you lend me a kurta?” I didn’t have one, but I gave him my jubba. He went to Garba looking like a proper habibi!
As for me, I went in half-pants, a t-shirt, and—by mistake—slippers. That was my biggest regret because almost everyone else was dressed properly. The girls were all in full Garba dress code, and some of the guys were too, but definitely not me.
Another surprising thing I saw: I had only ever seen in reels that drummers sometimes sit on the dhol itself while playing. But this time, I saw it live with my own eyes—and I couldn’t understand how he managed to sit on the drum and still play it so well!
